Alert--Possible Scam

At 11:42 a.m. on January 16th, a resident of the 1800 block of Oliver reported that a Hispanic male stated that he worked for NIPSCO and would like to come into the house to check the electricity. The subject was approx. 5'7", had a stocky build, very short hair and was wearing a tan jacket.

As the suject had no identification from NIPSCO, the resident called police. Officers advised that the subject had left the area before they arrived.

On Tuesday, Jan 15th, at 2:48 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person near Nathan Hale School. Detectives Lt. Abner and Stelow spoke with male subject Ronald Baker of 1438 Fischrupp Avenue. Mr. Baker advised officers that he was waiting for another person who had left the area.

Officers arrested Ronald Baker for Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance (Class C felony) and Public Intoxication. Mr. Baker was transported to the Whiting PD pending transport to the Lake County Jail.
