Tuesday, July 15, 2008 On Monday, July 14, at 11:50 pm, a Hammond resident reported that they witnessed a dark colored vehicle with chrome rims and tinted windows speeding away from Whiting Pier. Officers confirmed that the Pier had been vandalized with graffiti. Graffiti Vandal Arrested Tuesday, July 15, 2008 On Monday, July 14, at 9:07 pm, a caller reported that a male in a black tank top and dark jogging pants was at the Whiting High School track vandalizing bleachers with paint. The caller reported that the subject had moved to the New York side of the school. Cpl. Allard arrested a juvenile from Chicago at the corner of Sheridan & 119th Street. The juvenile was charged with City Ordinance Delinquent Criminal Mischief/Damage to City Property. He was transported to WPD and released to his parents. Officers Retrieve Kids from Lake Tuesday, July 15, 2008 On Monday, July 14, at 8:52 pm, WPD recieved several 911 calls regarding juveniles in the water near Whiting Pier. Callers reported that they could not get the kids out of the water. All Whiting units were detailed and officers reported that the kids were hanging on to the pier pilings and were starting to panic. Lt. Abner, Sgt. Sopo, Capt. Allard & Patrolman Gajewski quickly acted in concert, using ropes to retrieve the kids from the water. WFD examined the kids and transported them to WPD. They were released to their parents. Robbery Suspect Arrested Monday, July 14, 2008 On Saturday, July 12th, at 6:48 pm, a male hispanic approached a woman at the corner of 119th & New York Avenue. The man asked for directions, which were provided. As the woman began to walk away, the suspect grabbed the woman's purse strap. A struggle ensued. The woman called for help and ended up with the male's car keys. Bystanders responded and kept the man in the area until police arrived. Arrested for Robbery (a Class B Felony) was Alfredo Lopez, 22, of the 2900 Block of E. 87th, Chicago IL. |
