Utility Scams

Officers report that an elderly couple in the 1500 block of Steiber Street had a hispanic male come to their back door posing as a phone company employee.  The subject was a short heavyset male with a day old beard and a tan colored work shirt.  The subject told the elderly female that he was from the phone company and was there to check the buzzing in her phone.  The subject took the female into the basement and had her turn the water on.  While he kept her busy in the basement, the elder male let two white males in the front door.  They had him sit down at the table while they went through drawers in the home.  Nothing was taken from the home and neither person was hurt.

Whiting Police request residence to contact the police if anyone comes to their door posing as workers without proper identification.  659-2131
