Bomb Threat at Refinery (12-8-11)

Whiting PD was detailed to the BP Glass house welcome center.  Hobart PD called the station to report that they received a 911 call from a male subject at a pay phone that there was a bomb at the Whiting Refinery.  Hobart PD advised that they have officers in route to the pay phone that was located at the gas station at the corner of 37th and Wisconsin.  BP security was notified along with the Chief and Detective Capt.  FBI also was notified.

A resident in the 1500 block of Steiber Street reported that his 2011 Ford was keyed sometime between 0900 hours and 1200 hours.  Officers reported that the complainant suspects the mother of his child did the damage.

An employee from Happy Jacks Liquors reported that two male Hispanics with dark hoodies came into the store and stole several cases of Bud Light Beer.

A resident in the 150 block of John Street reported that persons unknown threw eggs at her house.  Officers reported that the eggs hit tow places and no other houses were hit at this time.

Whiting Fire Department was detailed to the 2500 block of Schrage Avenue in reference to a vehicle fire.  WFD extinguished the fire.


Prescription Fraud (12-3-11)

Whiting PD was detailed to the Fagan Pharmacy in reference to Prescription Fraud.  Employees reported a male, black wearing a beige hoodie across the street.  Sgt Hale arrested Clifton Adams of 709 Wentworth, Calumet City, IL for Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud and on a warrant out of East Chicago PD.  Also arrested was Ozella M Grant of 709 Wentworth, Calumet City, IL for Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud.  Both were transported to the Whiting PD pending transport to the Lake County Jail.

A resident in the 1500 block of John Street reported gang graffiti on her car that was parked in the rear of the house.  Officers spoke with the complainant and advised her how to take the graffiti off without damage to the cars finish.

Cpl Westerfield and Ofc Prevatte reported being out of the car in the 2700 block of White Oak Avenue in reference to a possible Domestic.  Officers arrested at the scene a Michael Bewley of 3008 Strong Street, Highland, IN for Domestic Battery, Fleeing Law Enforcement, Battery and Criminal Trespass.  Officers spoke with the complainant who reported that while she was asleep she heard noises that woke her and she found Michael Bewley in her bed.  The subject was transported to the Whiting PD and placed in lock-up pending bond.

Hammond PD request assistance at the Refinery Bar in reference to a fight in progress.  Officers reported that the subject left before the officers arrived on the scene.

A Falcone Realtor from Schererville, IN reported the theft of a dishwasher and three planters within the last two weeks from some property in the 1600 block of Cleveland.  The realtor suspects the ex-tenant is responsible for the thefts.

Sgt Sopo arrested Dominic Elinkowski of 1935 Superior, Whiting, IN on a warrant out of Whiting City Court for Failure to Respond to a Summons.  The subject was placed in lock-up pending bond or court date.


Vandalism to Washroom at Sports Complex (12-1-11)

A city employee reported damage to the washroom at the Whiting Sports Complex.  Officers reported that persons unknown put soap and toilet paper in all the sinks.  The employee reported that the door was left open by the contractor.

A resident in the 1700 block of Atchison Avenue reported that he heard a rock hit his front window.  Officers checked the area locating no one and no damage to the window.
