Illinois License Plate Sting

Officers from the Whiting Police Department conducted an Illinois license plate check in the area around Whiting Schools. Eight traffic citations were issued for out of state place violations, 2 citations were issued for Operator Not Licensed violations and 1 citation was issued for False or Fictitious Registration. One vehicle was towed and the two violators not licesnsed posted bond at the Whiting PD. All offenders have pending court dates.


Drug Arrest

On January 8th, undercover officers from the WPD conducted a drug investigation in the area of 121st and Indianapolis Blvd. They arrested Johnny Jernigan, age 34, of 2112 Stanton Avenue, Hammond. Mr. Jernigan is charged with PC Dealing in Cocaine (Class B Felony) and PC Possession of Cocaine (Class D Felony). Jernigan is awaiting transport to Lake County Jail.


Shots Fired Update

On January 8th, Whiting Detectives filed charges and made arrests relating to the shots fired in the 1500 block of Steiber the day before.

Charged with 2 counts of Criminal Recklessness (Class C Felony) was Patrick Beaulieu, age 19, of 8401 Muskegon, Chicago. Beaulieu has been incarcerated in the Lake County Jail. Baltazar Carvajal, age 19, of 1739 Standard Ave, and Leobardo Nunez Jr., age 18, of 2408 White Oak, have also been charged with 2 counts of Criminal Recklessness (Class C Felony) and are in Whiting PD lock-up pending transport to the Lake County Jail.




Shots Fired: 1500 Block Steiber

Shortly after 5 a.m., all officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of Steiber. Manuel Ramos reported that a male person known to him had just shot up his rear door. Officers reported that no one was in the area at the time.

Whiting K-9 and Hammond PD retrieved information that the subject in question was at a residence in the 2800 block of Schrage.

Officers searched  that home and located one subject hiding in the basement. He was taken into custody along with a female and was transported to the PD. Detectives were called out and an investigation is ongoing.
