Licensing Requirements
Contractor's License
1). Application for Contractor's License must be completed.
2). Copy of Liability Insurance showing the City of Whiting as the Certificated holder with a combined single limit of $300,000 of bodily injury and property damage liability of not less than $50,000.
An insurance certificate or statement evidencing that
your business is fully insured for Indiana Workmen's
Compensation in conformity with the laws of the State of
Indiana including an active policy number or an Indiana
Department of Revenue Worker's Compensation Clearance
Certificate for Independent Contractors.
3). Copy of License and Permit Bond, duly recorded
with the Lake County Recorder's Office in the amount of $5,000.
4). Cash, check or Money Order in the amount of $50.00 for license.
5). Licenses will begin on January 1 and expire on December 31 of the same year.
Electrical License
1). License fee is $50.
2). Copy of Liability Insurance of not less than $50,000.
3). License & Permit Bond in the amount not less than $5,000.
4). Licenses will run from January 1 through December 31 of the same year.
5). An application shall be filled out each year.
Business Registration License
1). All business operated within the City of Whiting are required to obtain a Business Registration License.
2). The license year shall run from January 1 through December 31 of each year.
3). The annual fee is $50.00.
4). The application for a business registration license shall be made no later than last day of the third month of a license year. Failure to obtain a license of the last day of the third month shall result in the assessment of an additional $25.00 to the applicant. Failure to obtain a license by the last day of the fourth month shall result in the assessment of an additional $50.00 to applicant.
Taxi Cab License
1). License to be applied for by November 15 of the previous year.
2). Application for license must be filled out each year.
3). Insurance policy listing each cab to be covered.
4). Approval form from Police Department showing that each car has passed inspection.
5). Cash, check of money order to accompany application. The Basic fee is $100 per year plus an additional fee of $50.00 of each additional cab.
Amusement Device License
1). Application for Amusement Device License filled out and submitted to the Clerk-Treasurer's Office for approval by the Board of Pubic Works and Safety.
2). Licenses shall run from January 1 through December 31 of the same year.
3). License may be transferred from one amusement device to another only after applicant applies for transfer and the amusement device is approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
4). A fee of $200.00 will be assessed for each Amusement Device is approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
5). Application must be made by March 31 of each year and all fees must be paid by that date of be subject to a $25.00 fine for each amusement device.
6). Amusement Devices placed in service after March 31 will not be subject to the delinquent fee.
Peddlers License (Ordinance being worked on)
1). Application for Peddlers license may be obtained at the office of the Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Whiting. It must be completed and returned to the Clerk-Treasurer.
2). Licenses shall run from January 1 through December 31 of the same year.
3). Annual license fee is $100.00
Dog & Cat License
1). Each dog & cat in the City of Whiting must obtain an animal license within 30 days after obtaining a dog or cat.
2). Proof of Rabies Vaccination must be presented at the of application for dog or cat license.
3). Licenses for dogs & cats are $5.00 until March 31. After March 31 deadline, a delinquent fee of $10.00 will be assessed for each license. The delinquent fee shall not apply to a new puppy or kitten tag applied for after March 31.
Children's Care Center License
1). License for Children's Care Center License must be completed and returned to the office of the Clerk-Treasurer.
2). Licenses shall run from January 1 through December 31 of each year.
3). Licenses for Children's Care Center Licenses are $50.00. Renewals will be $50.00 until the March 31 deadline. After March 31 a delinquent fee of $25.00 will be assessed.
Permit Fees
Building Permits
1). Building Permits shall be obtained before beginning construction, alteration or repair of any building or structure.
2). All permits for new construction must be approved by the Building Commissioner after the inspection of all plans and drawings have been studied and approved.
3). Permit fees are based on the cost of the job:
$10.00 for the 1st $1,000.00
$ 5.00 for each $1,000.00 or portion of a $1,000 thereafter.
Demolition Permits
1). Demolition Permits are as follows:
$10.00 for the 1st $1,000.00
$ 5.00 for each $1,000.00 or portion of a $1,000 thereafter.
Swimming Pool Permits
1). Applicant of Pool permit should come to the Clerk-Treasurer's office for a copy of the Swimming Pool Ordinance.
2). Drawing of Property showing location and diameter of Pool must be submitted to the Building Commissioner for approval.
3). Permit fee: $10.00
