Whiting literally "sparkles" into the Holiday season each year with this wonderful hometown parade. Glittering, lighted floats make their way from Calumet Avenue down through the 119th Street business district and stop in front of Whiting's historic City Hall building where carolers are filling the air with Christmas carols.
And of course, the grand finale of the parade is always the guest of honor, jolly old Santa himself. At the end of the parade as the Mayor lights Whiting's official Christmas tree, residents are invited to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments. The Illuminated Parade is held the first Friday of the first full weekend of December at 7pm.
Home for the Holidays
Home for the Holidays, sponsored by Arts Alive!, begins Saturday in Whiting's historic Community Center. Dozens upon dozens of ethnic homemade cookies are available for purchase for Christmas.
On Sunday, the Decorated Home Tour begins including six to eight homes in the Whiting-Robertsdale area. The ticket to the self-guided tour comes with a brief history of each home, its owners, and interesting to look for while visiting. Whiting's beautiful Andrew Carnegie Library is always part of the tour where guests can come for refreshments and take a look at this historic structure. The Decorated Home Tour is always held the first Sunday of the first full weekend of December.
