Pierogi Festival - July 25-27
Hometown Fest with
Old World Entertainment

Mercantile National's International Polka Parade on Friday night is one of the highlights of each Pierogi Fest. With its special Precision Lawn-mower Drill team, the Twirling Babushka Brigade, the Marching MBA's, the World's Original Lazy Boy float, high school band, the Pierogi Queen and her court, and the "Beer-o-gies," the parade salutes their Eastern European heritage with a little tongue in cheek. It's like no other parade you'll ever see!
Voted "Best Event of the Year" in 1999 by the Lake County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Whiting's Pierogi Fest was also featured on WTTW's "Wild Chicago!" Take this golden-brown opportunity to come to one of the fastest growing hometown festivals in northwest Indiana. At Pierogi Fest 2006 not only can you tap your toes to the live and pulsating music of polka bands, but you can sit and watch the beautifully costumed young men and women from three different ethnic dance troupes perform folk dances from Slovakia. They leap high into the air or execute intricate step dances from the Old World to delight their audiences. For a more modern flair, Jane Berland's dancers and Michelle Hull's dance troops from Whiting perform modern dance and tap routines at Pierogi Court West. And there's even the country charm of young colleens from the Dennehy Irish Step Dance troupe. Mr. Pierogi and the Pieroguettes will entertain the crowds with medleys of songs dedicated to the little Polish/Slovak darling dumpling of the day.
The Pierogi Fest is presented by the City of Whiting and the Whiting Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce. For more information call toll free 1-877-659-0292.

Our local cultural icon, Mr. Pierogi leads our Polka Parade, chats with young visitors, and has had his picture taken over and over again with Pierogi Festival goers. Mr. Pierogi and his Pieroguettes (Miss Potato, Miss Cheese, Miss Mushroom, Miss Berry, Miss Beef, Miss Apricot, and Miss Sauerkraut) sing and dance during the Mr. Pierogi Musicale presented on Saturdays. Big time favorites are "Pierogi" our festival anthem, sung to the tune of "Matilda" and the charming "Whiting, Indiana" song. Guests vocalists have "bowled over" lunch time crowds with "You Can't Hurry Lunch," "Anything You Can Eat, I Can Eat More Of" and of course the fugue from "Guys & Pierogis." Broadway tunes bow to the great white (and kind of golden brown) Pierogi! The festival features events for the young and old.
