About Us
In 1995 a small group of local artists were generously gifted the opportunity to exhibit their works in a Whiting Katco owned storefront. That gift began a decade long journey of growth and opportunity for area artists. Thanks to the community of supporters and patrons, the 119th Street Artists are celebrating their 10 Plus years. Presently the 119th Street Artists are utilizing space graciously donated by Centier Bank which has been renovated to include the Cornerstone Art Gallery, a Gift Shop, and a meeting and studio area. The Cornerstone Art Gallery offers shows throughout the year that showcase the work of member or guest artists in a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, photography, metal art, fine art furniture, fused glass and jewelry, mosaic art, collage, wood, and more. Gallery shows include Under 16 Show, Over 50 Show, Cabin Fever Show, Pierogie Fest Show, and the annual December Oliver Brown Show. There are also shows / exhibits of works by individual members of the 119th Street Artists. Guest exhibitors are also wecome to schedule a show in the Gallery. Member artists have also offered a variety of classes over the years including acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting, drawing, jewelry beading, mosaics, and a variety of after school arts for children.
Our Mission Statement: "We are the bridge between artists and the community, supporting and encouraging artists in their creative endeavors, creating an environment which increases the community's appreciation of, awareness of, and participation in the arts." To continue to live out our mission we need the active participation of artists and the generosity of art supporters or patrons. Membership includes an opportunity to network, show your work, sell small items in the Gift Shop and be part of the local art community.
