Master developer selected!!

The Whiting Redevelopment Commission recently selected Tara Development of Burns Harbor, Indiana as its master developer for the Whiting Renaissance Development Plan. Mayor Joe Stahura states “this may be the single largest economic development project ever undertaken in our City’s history. The project is intended to put all City owned or controlled properties in play for new development activities. The project is expected to include single family homes, town houses, condominiums, commercial improvements, and new light industrial developments. Options to improve the lakefront shoreline will also be explored. The mission of the project is to put unused and under-utilized properties back on the tax roles providing value to the community.

New voter I.D. Law takes effect in May!!!

Beginning with the May 2nd Primary Election, all voters must provide a government-issued photo ID before being allowed to cast a ballot. This law was passed in 2005 by the General Assembly.

The ID must:

  • Display the voter’s photo
  • Display the voter’s name, and the name must conform with the voter registration record
  • Contain an expiration date and either still be current or have expired sometime after November 2, 2004
  • Be issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government.  In most cases, an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card Passport, or Military ID is sufficient.

Exemptions do exist for the indigent, those with a religious objection to being photographed, and individuals living in state-licensed facilities where the precinct’s polling place is located.

If you do not have a valid photo ID, you may obtain an Indiana photo ID card free of charge from any Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branch. For more information, please contact the BMV at (317) 233-6000 or visit the website http://www.bmv.in.gov/





Mayor plans Public Forum on April 11

Mayor Joe Stahura will conduct a Public Forum at the Whiting High School Auditorium on April 11 at 7:00 pm.  Mayor Joe will give a presentation on the many Economic Development Projects on tap for Whiting as well as several other City issues.  The presentation will take approximately 45 minutes and then the Mayor will open the floor and address public comments as time allows.  Hope to see you there!!
