Vehicle Vandalism (9-13-15)

A resident in the 2200 block of Schrage Avenue advised that the windshield of her 2004 Chevy was broken out.  Officers spoke with the male half and he advised that he had gone to Game Time and Whiting Park and he is unsure where the damage happened.

Apartment Ransacked (9-12-15)

A resident in the 1200 block of W. Fred Street reported that when he had gotten home after being released from the Lake County Jail on a domestic case he found his apartment had been ransacked.  Officers spoke with the complainant who advised that his apartment smelled of urine.  A witness to the incident who lives upstairs advised that the only person I the apartment was his ex. Officers advised that it is a civil matter.  Nothing further at this time.

Fire Alarm (9-12-15)

Whiting PD and Whiting FD were detailed to a fire alarm reported by Alert Alarm in the 1500 block of 119th Street and the 5th floor with smoke in the hall way.  Sgt. Hale advised to disregard they are working on the alarm system and it is a false alarm.  Fire units advised to disregard.

Juveniels Mischief (9-11-15)

A business owner in the 1400 block of 119th Street reported approx. 5 juveniles going from roof to roof.  The complainant advised that the kids road over on bikes.  Officers were detailed to the scene and located the juveniles on the stairs rear of the Deals store.  Officers spoke with the subjects and sent them on their way.

Theft of Purse (9-11-15)

A resident in the 1500 block of Steiber Street reported that while she was at the Slovak Club a tall thin M/B walked in and identified himself as the cleaning person.  The complainant advised that the subject picked up a bag of trash and then walked out with her purse.  Officers checked the area with negative results. The City Sanitation workers also were notified.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (9-10-15)

Hammond PD requests assistance in the 1400 block of Indianapolis Blvd. with the theft of a cell phone.  The phone was taken from a Silver SUV.  Sgt. Butler reported no SUV in the area.

Theft of Catalytic Converter (9-10-15)

A resident in the 1700 block of Oliver Street reported the theft of the catalytic converter from his 2004 Chevy Cavalier.

A resident in the 1700 block of 119th Street reported to the Whiting PD the theft of her catalytic converter from her 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.  The complainant reported that she did not report it due to her thinking that it was her muffler.  When she took the car to be repaired they told her at Midas to file a police report.

Theft from Family Dollar (9-10-15)

An employee from Family Dollar reported a theft from the store.  Officers reported that 2 M/H and 2 M/B with back packs shoplifted chips and juice and are heading up Central Avenue towards the baseball field.  Officers checked the area with negative results.  The complainant advised that this is an ongoing problem with kids after school.

Theft of Catalytic Converter (9-10-15)

A resident in the 1500 block of Steiber Street reported the theft of the catalytic converter of her 1999 Chevy Malibu.  The complainant advised that the theft possibly occurred around 11 or 12.  She reported seeing a Dark Colored Jeep Cherokee was parked in front of her vehicle and it was reeving it engine.  The complainant believes that these are the subject involved in the theft.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (9-10-15)

Hammond PD requested assistance with a domestic at Calumet Avenue and 119th Street.  Ofc. Prevatte and Sgt. Hale were detailed and Ofc. Prevatte reported that the female half was wanted out of East Chicago, IN.  Ofc. Prevatte was detailed to the originating location of the domestic to make sure that the house was locked up.  Hammond PD took the female Karena Walker of 1907 Warwick Avenue, Whiting, IN into custody.  Hammond PD handled.

Theft Catalytic Converter (9-10-15)

A resident in the 1700 block of Center Street reported a theft.  Sgt. Hale reported that persons unknown cut the catalytic converter off her 2012 Ford Explorer.

A resident in the 1400 block of Fred Street requested officers in reference to a theft.  Ofc. Prevatte reported that persons unknown had cut the catalytic converter of her 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (9-9-15)

Hammond PD requests assistance in the 1600 block of Brown Avenue in reference to a prowler call.  Officers reported searching the area with negative results.

Arrest – Possession of a Narcotic (9-8-15)

An ambulance was requested at the 1700 block of 119th Street.  Sgt. Sopo and Lt. Abner was also detailed.  Officers arrested James Orlando of 1711 - 119th Street, Whiting, IN for Possession of a Narcotic a level 6 Felony.  He was transported to the Whiting PD and processed and placed in lock up pending transport to the Lake County Jail.  The subject was in possession of Heroin.

Suspicious Subject (9-8-15)

A resident in the 1400 block of Fischrupp Avenue called to report a M.B subject who approached her niece while sitting on the front porch.  The caller reported that the subject was last seen walking towards Midtown.  He is described as to be on heroin or some type of opiates.  The caller requested to check the area due to school kids getting out of school.  The caller requested no officers at her home.

Citation – Passing School Bus (9-8-15)

Chief Miller issued a traffic citation to Terence D Ahern of 7048 Forest Avenue, Hammond, IN for Passing a School Bus while Loading or Unloading in the 1800 block of Oliver Street.  The citation was sent certified mail after it was witnessed by the school bus driver and helper and video from the school bus.

Chief Miller issued a traffic citation to Alejandrina Rubino of 1630 Central Avenue, Whiting, IN for Passing a School Bus while loading or Unloading in the 1800 block of Oliver Street.  The citation was sent certified mail after it was witnessed by school bus driver and helper and video from the school bus.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (9-7-15)

Hammond PD requests assistance at the Smoke Shop at 11001 Indianapolis Blvd. in reference to the lights being on and the cash box out.  Officers reported that they could not see any employee's.  Ofc. Semancik advised that he located an employee and all is ok.

Warrant Confirmation Requested (9-6-15)

East Chicago PD requested warrant confirmation on a female that they have.  The warrant was confirmed by Whiting PD and East Chicago PD transported one Linda Staggs of 9314 - 150th Street, Hammond, IN to the Whiting PD on a warrant out of City Court for Failure to Appear for Rabies control.  She was bood and placed in lock=up pending bond or transport to the Lake County Jail.

Possible Vehicle Break In (9-6-15)

A resident in the 1800 block of Cleveland Avenue reported that his wife's car had been broken into and items were stolen out of it.  Officers requested a vehicle registration check and the vehicle came back to a female from off of the 2004 block of Atchison Avenue on a silver 2014 Toyota.  Sgt. Sopo reported that they are claiming that someone hit the window.  Officers advised that the damage was done by them and not someone breaking into the car.  Officers are checking the area to see if they could find any other vehicle that had been hit.  Lt. Tobias reported finding the mirror of the car in the 1800 block of Cleveland alley after it hit a garbage can.

Theft at Walgreens (9-5-15)

Walgreens manager called to report a theft that had occurred and the suspect fled down 119th Street in a blue 2010 or 2011 Chevy Impala.  The suspect is a F/H with a white tank top on that took several items in a bag and then fled the area.  Sgt. Hale and Ofc. Macon stopped a vehicle matching the description at Schrage and Indianapolis Blvd.  Officers returned to Walgreens with the suspect who was identified as the subject involved in the theft.  Officers arrested Meagon R Ducret of 8424 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, IN for Criminal Conversion and the warrant for theft from Lake County.  She was transported to the Whiting PD pending transport to the Lake County Jail.

Vandalism by Whiting Park Entrance (9-5-15)

The retired Fire Chief called in that he witnessed a H/M approx. 12-13 years old with no shirt and green shorts smash a in ground light at the entrance to Whiting Park on 117th Street.  Chief reported that he has a picture of the subject and he is walking towards the tennis courts.  Officers were detailed and reported negative results in locating the subject.

Theft From Garage (9-5-15)

A resident in the 1600 block of Cleveland Avenue requested officers in reference to a reported theft.  Offices reported that the complainant had a Inbox Thermos Grill taken from her unlocked garage.  She reported the theft occurred after noon on 9-3-15.  Officers reported that the gate and garage were both left unlocked.

Stolen Bike (9-5-15)

A resident in the 1800 block of LaPorte Avenue requested officers to make a report of a stolen bike.  Officers reported that the complainant last seen the bike at 8:30 pm last night and when she came out today she noticed the bike was gone.  Taken was a gray and yellow Mongoose XL 1.
