Arrest – Criminal Mischief and Criminal Gang Activity (7-22-14)

A resident in the 1400 block of Fred Street reported that she observed a thin male subject with long hair standing by her air conditioner.  When she approached the subject he walked away and joined four other subjects.  The subject damaged her air conditioner coil by scratching the letters SD in it.  Sgt. Sopo located the subject in question and arrested the same for Criminal Mischief and Criminal Gang Activity.

Subject Threatened (7-22-14)

A resident in the 1500 block of Center Street reported that while he was at the Ice Cream Shop on 119th Street he was threatened by a Hispanic male.  The complainant reported that he blew his horn at an orange Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix and the driver, a Hispanic male got out and threated to shoot him.

Vandalism (7-22-14)

A City employee reported mischief done to the Schrage Mansion.  Officers reported that a brick was thrown through the NW corner window.  An employee reported that it was unsure when the damage happened.

Possible Break In (7-21-14)

A resident in the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue reported hearing glass breaking and a possible break in at her neighbor's garage.  Officers reported that everything was clear but requested that the owner be contacted to check out the property.  The owner reported that everything was fine.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-21-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance at the Walmart between two Hispanic females and two Black females in the kitchen appliance area.  Officers reported that Hammond PD handled.

Unknown Subject in Yard (7-21-14)

A resident in the 1200 block of 121st Street reported that a male subject was in her yard and when she questioned him as to why he was there he took off running.  the subject was last seen walking on 121st Street.  Officers checked the area with negative results.  Hammond PD also was advised.

Garbage Can Fire (7-20-14)

Whiting PD and FD units were detailed to the alley rear of Game Time in reference to a fire.  Officers reported a garbage can on fire in rear of the house in the 1300 block of 121st Street.  Whiting Fire Department handled.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-20-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance at the Hammond Marina at the main dock in removing a unwanted subject.  Officers reported that Hammond PD removed the subject.

Crash with Vehcile on Fire (7-20-14)

Whiting PD received several calls of a crash with a vehicle on fire at Calumet and Indianapolis Blvd.  Hammond Fire and PD were enroute.  Sgt. Hale assisted a nurse in administering CPR.  Officers reported that the subject had expired at the scene.  Hammond PD and FD handled.

Possible Gun Shots (7-19-14)

All units were detailed to the area of 119h Street and Central Avenue in reference to what sounded like three gun shots.  Officers checked the area with negative results and spoke with people in the area who did not hear anything.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-18-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance with an active alarm at the Dollar General Store in the 1700 block of Indianapolis Blvd.  The alarm shows motion sensor inside the store.  Officers reported all doors and windows were secure.

Bike Stolen (7-17-14)

A resident in the 2000 block of Davidson Place reported that persons unknown stole a girls purple 26 inch 21 speed bike from under the porch.  The bike has a City License attached to it.

Hammond PD Requests Officers (7-17-14)

Hammond PD requests Officers at the entrance of the Festival of the Lakes in reference to a subject they are holding on a warrant out of Whiting City Court.  Sgt. Sopo arrested David McCarter, 1739 Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, IN on a warrant out of Whiting City Court.  He was booked and placed in lock-up pending bond or transport to the Lake County Jail.

Car Fire (7-16-14)

Whiting PD and Fire units were detailed to the area of 120th and Euclid Avenue in reference to a car fire.  Officers reported that upon his arrival a 2006 Chevy Equinox was on fire.  Officers spoke with witnesses in the area who reported that two subjects were seen running from the rear down the alley toward Euclid.  Officers reported that a brick was also thrown through the window.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-16-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance at 122nd and Calumet Avenue in reference to a large fight.  Officers reported that the subject involved had left the area before officers arrived.  Hammond officers advised.

Pit Bulls Running Loose (7-15-14)

A resident in the 1400 block of John Street to a report of two pit bulls running loose on John Street heading towards Clark Street.  The dogs were located and taken to the owner.  Officers arrested Thomas Vianelio of 1428 Fischrupp Avenue, Whiting, IN for Animals Running at Large and No Animal City License.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-14-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance at the Walmart with a disturbance between a customer and an employee.  Officers spoke with the parties involved and it was learned that is was a misunderstanding between them.  Hammond PD handled.

Hammond PD Requests Assistance (7-13-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance in the 1500 block of Lake Avenue with a Hispanic male wearing a Bulls shirt and was beating on a female.  Hammond PD advised that the subject may now be at Dunkin Donuts.  Officers reported that Hammond PD handled.

Theft of Wallet (7-13-14)

A resident from Chicago and an employee of BP located  at 2815 Indianapolis Blvd reported the theft of his wallet while he was at work at the refinery.  The wallet contained his Driver's License and numerous credit cards and $120.00 in USC.  The complainant reported that he canceled his credit cards and it was learned that someone had made a transaction on his American Express card.

Vehicle Vandalism (7-12-14)

An employee from Southlake Limo Service reported that the driver's side rear tire was flat, the gas cap cover was torn off and the front and rear wiper blades were broken on his 2008 White Hummer Limo while it was parked in the 1400 block of 119th Street.

Citations Issued (7-11-14)

Whiting PD was detailed to the 1900 block of Clark Street to reports of neighbors in the area shooting off bottle rockets from the upstairs window.  Sgt. Allard issued court citations to Samantha M Tardos of 1923 Clark Street, Apt 9, Whiting, IN and Evan Cody Vance of 1848 Indianapolis Blvd for Disturbing the Peace.

Vehicle Vandalism (7-11-14)

A resident in the 1900 block of Clark Street reported that persons unknown had entered his unlocked 2000 Ford that was parked in front of his house and had ransacked it.  Officers reported that nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Items Stolen/Recovered (7-11-14)

An employee from the Whiting Medical Center reported that an IPhone and a medical prescription pad were reported stolen had been located.

Vehicle Vandalism (7-11-14)

A resident in the 1400 block of Fischrupp Avenue reported that persons unknown entered his 2004 Silver Chevy that was unlocked and the window was left open that was parked in front of his residence and ransacked it.

Arrest – Criminal Mischief (7-10-14)

Lt. Abner arrested Tyler J Pilkins of 939 Myrtle Avenue, Whiting, IN on a warrant out of City Court for Criminal Mischief.  Bond was posted buy the father and he was release to the same.
