Vehicle Vandalism (6-25-14)

A resident in the 1900 block of Clark Street reported that persons unknown ransacked her black 2010 Mazda 3 between the hours of 6 pm and 1 am.  Taken was a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.  The contents of the glove compartment were dumped out on the seat.

Arrest (6-24-14)

A resident in the 1400 block of Fischrupp Avenue reported two male subjects going thru cars.  Ofc. Trinidad arrested Patrick Delaney of 1500 John Street, Whiting, IN for Assisting a Criminal.  Ofc. Prevatte arrested Eli D. Panayotovich of 1729 Sheridan Avenue, Whiting, IN for Unauthorized Entry to a Motor Vehicle, Public Intoxication, Theft from a Vehicle.  Officers recovered the stolen items from both of the subjects.  They were transported to the Whiting PD and processed and placed in lock-up pending bond or transport to the Lake County Jail.

Arrest – FTA (6-23-14)

Det. Sgt. Stelow arrested Steve Cribari of 1715 Cleveland Avenue, Whiting, IN on a warrant out of City Court for Failure to Appear.  He was processed and placed in lock up and court date.

Vehicle Pointing Rocket Launcher (6-22-14)

Hammond PD called reporting that a maroon 4 door vehicle with 3-4 white or hispanic  males pointed a rocket launcher at the complainant at Atchison Avenue and Indianapolis Blvd.  Hammond reported that the vehicle was heading towards W. Fred Street.  Officers checked the area with negative results.

Suspicious Subject (6-22-14)

A resident in the 1500 block of Fred Street reported that a B/M wearing long sleeve blue shirt and dark pants came to her door asking to use the house phone or her cell phone.  Officers located the subject in the 1400 block of Fred Street.  The subject advised officers he was looking for a person that lived in the area.  Officers attempted to contact the person he was looking for and got no answer.  The subject was transported out of the area.

Vehicle Accident (6-22-14)

Units were detailed to the 1800 block of Sheridan Avenue in reference to a motor vehicle crash.  Involved was Eli D. Panayotovich of 1729 Sheridan Avenue, Whiting, IN and a parked vehicle of a resident in the 1800 block of Sheridan Avenue.  Sgt. Butler arrested Eli Panayotovich for Unreasonable Speed, No License in Possession, No Proof of Financial Responsibility.  L.t Abner called out.  Panayotovich was booked in at the Whiting PD and transported to the hospital for testing.

East Chicago PD Requests Assistance (6-21-14)

East Chicago PD requests assistance at 129th and Indianapolis Blvd. with traffic control.  BP called to report a fire at the Nipsco substation.  All units were detailed and reported numerous power outages in the area.  Nipsco was notified and INDOT was contacted to place a stop sign in the area where the traffic lights are out.  EMA 80 reports replacing a manhole cover that had been blown off due to the rain.  City employees called and advised of the street flooding at 121st and Front Street.

Attempted Vehicle Break In (6-21-14)

Units were detailed to the area of the 1600 block of Central Avenue to a call regarding 3 males and 1 female attempting to gain entry to a vehicle with a coat hanger.  Officers located all involved and spoke with the owner of the car who locked her keys inside the car.  Officers confirmed that she was the owner.

Hammond Pd Requests Assistance (6-21-14)

Hammond PD requests assistance in the 1000 block of Indianapolis Blvd. to a report of two subjects selling cologne.  One is wearing a tan shirt and the other a white shirt and both subject had cornrows.  Hammond PD reported that a fight between the two broke out.  Cpl. Gajewski reported negative results and the subjects were GOA upon his arrival.

Gate Stolen (6-21-14)

A resident in the 1300 block of W. Fred Street reported that persons unknown took the gate from her back yard,  The complainant advised that other gates are also missing.  Lt. Tobias reported that gates are missing from numerous other properties in the area.

Officer Assists Hammond PD (6-21-14)

Lt. Tobias reported assisting Hammond PD with an accident in the area of New York and Indianapolis Blvd.

Arrest (6-20-14)

Cpl. Gajewski and Ofc. Trinidad arrested Eric J. Johnson of 1711 - 119th Street, Whiting, IN for Refusal to Identify, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Law Enforcement (2x).  The subject was transported to the Whiting PD pending bond and sobriety.

Vehicle Vandalism (6-20-14)

A resident in the 2000 block of White Oak Avenue reported that her 2003 Black Pontiac was broken into during the night.  Officers reported that the car stereo was taken along with misc. change.

Subject Stealing Flowers (6-19-14)

Units were detailed to the Whiting Park by the pavilion to a report of a subject stealing flowers.  Officers reported speaking with the subject who was with his parents and his child.  Officers reported that the subject was from Harvey, IL and had not taken any flowers.

Fence Gate Stolen (6-18-14)

A resident in the 2500 block of White Oak Avenue reported that persons unknown took the metal unlocked gate from his fence.

Theft of Catalytic Converter (6-18-14)

A resident in the 2500 block of Schrage Avenue reported the theft of his catalytic converter from his Red Pontiac Montana that was parked in front of his house.  The theft occurred between 6-17-14 and 6-18-14.

Theft of Stereo from Vehicle (6-18-14)

A resident in the 1200 block of W. Fred Street reported that persons unknown stole the Pioneer Stereo from her 1998 Pontiac Grand Am.  Officers reported that the vehicle was parked on Kelly Place and W. Fred.  The theft occurred between 7-17-14 and 6-18-14 at approx. 0955 hrs.

Theft of Catalytic Converter (6-18-14)

A resident in the 2100 block of Schrage Avenue reported the theft of his catalytic converter from his 2003 Chevy Ventura that was parked in front of his residence.  The complainant reported that the theft occurred between 2 am and 9 am on 6-18-14.

Officer Flagged Down (6-17-14)

Sgt. Greer reported that he was flagged down by a resident in the 1500 block of Fischrupp Avenue reporting that he seen a male subject from the 1500 block of Fuschrupp Avenue taking lumber from the construction site on New York Avenue.  The complainant reported that the lumber was loaded into a rapid fire wagon.  Sgt. Greer spoke with the mother of the subject accused of taking the wood.  The lumber will be returned.  Wood was taken to make a fort.

Chicago PD Reports Shooting (6-17-14)

Chicago PD reported that they had a shooting at 99th and Avenue J.  The subjects left the scene of the shooting are gang members from the Latin Dragons.  Two Hispanic males with tattoos on their face wearing all balck.  Two vehicles involved are a red Jeep Cherokee and a white Chevy Impala.

Subject Hitting a Child (6-17-14)

Units were detailed to the area of the 2000 block of Indianapolis Blvd. North of Game Time in reference to a subject hitting a child.  The complainant reported that they are in a red Pontiac Grand Prix.  Lt. Puhek reported checking the area with negative results.

Animal Citation (6-17-14)

Lt. Puhek issued a animal citation to Nicole Reynolds of 1537 Steiber Street, Whiting, IN for No City License.  She was released on signing the citation and given a court date.

Subject Drowned by the Pier (6-16-14)

All units were detailed to Whiting Park in reference to a subject that had drowned by the pier.  Officers requested Lake County Marine Unit, Department of Natural Resources and the Coast Guard be notified.  The Fire Chief and Police Chief were notified and arrived on the scene.  The Department of Natural Resources used a sonar in the lake to find the subject.  Lake County Coroner reported time of death at 2306 hrs.

Teens Swimming Off The Rocks (6-16-14)

The life guard at Whihala Beach reported that there are 4-5 teens swimming off the rocks at the boat dock area.  Sgt. Butler spoke with the subjects and sent them on their way.

Officer Flagged Down (6-16-14)

Sgt. Sopo reported being flagged down in the area of Whiting High School by a female from Myrtle Avenue.  The female reported that she is being followed by an unknown subject.  Sgt. Sopo followed the subject home and advised her to contact Hammond PD since the incident happened in Hammond.
