Reminder Deadline Approaching – City of Whiting Scholarship Program for 2018

CITY OF WHITING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR 2018

This is a reminder that the deadline is approaching for the City of Whiting Scholarship Programs for 2018.  Completed applications must be submitted to the City of Whiting Clerk-Treasurer’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on May 1, 2018.

Students who are dependents of a Whiting owner-occupied home, please be advised that the applications for the 2018 City of Whiting Scholarships are now available on the City’s website.  These can be found at the following links:

The deadline for turning in applications to City Hall is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, be the dependent of a Whiting homeowner who occupies that home, and attend a state accredited institution of higher learning.  Up to four scholarships may be awarded.  This year, the value of the scholarship has been increased to $6,250.00 per academic year for a total award of $25,000 over four years.  The Technical School Scholarship award remains at $3,000 per academic year for a total award of $6,000 over two years.

A five member committee reviews the applications based on scholastic achievement, involvement and leadership activities within the school, and involvement and leadership within the community.  The submittal requires an application, signed media release, senior photograph, current transcript (including SAT/ACT scores) and three letters recommendation from individual who is not affiliated with the Whiting School System.

This scholarship is a great opportunity for a student who has excelled both inside and outside the classroom.  It is not based on economic need but rather on the leadership and community involvement which the student has displayed.  We urge all eligible students to apply for this opportunity to obtain assistance in furthering their education goals.
