Saturday, January 27, 2007
Long time Clerk-Treasurer Margaret Drewniak has announced that she will not seek re-election in the May Primary Election. Mrs. Drewniak, who began her public service career in 1970, is beginning her 37 year serving the citizens of Whiting. Whiting has been a part of my life for many years , stated Drewniak. I ve enjoyed every aspect of my job, but it s time to retire to spend more time with my husband, children and grandchildren. I will certainly miss my co-workers, employees, and residents. Drewniak began her career serving in various capacities in City Hall and was promoted to Deputy Clerk under then Clerk-Treasurer Mary Jancek. She was then appointed to serve Jancek s unexpired term after her death in August of 1981. Marge has since served over 26 years as the City s Clerk-treasurer by winning six elections beginning in 1983. Margaret has many accomplishments to be proud of while she served as Clerk-Treasurer. She is responsible for computerizing the once manual operation of the office, and was the first Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Whiting to obtain the Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerk (IAMC) and the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designations. I would like to thank everyone involved for giving me the opportunity to serve the citizens of Whiting during my tenure, states Drewniak. Mayor Joe Stahura adds, The City of Whiting will truly miss Margaret when she retires at the end of the year. I cannot overstate the value her contributions played in improving our City s financial well-being during her tenure. I thank her for her guidance and assistance and wish her and her family the best in her retirement.
