Fire Prevention Week 2016

The Whiting Fire Department will have several activities this year during Fire Prevention Week which will begin on Sunday, October 9th and end on Saturday, October 15th. Nathan Hale students in Grades Pre-K thru 1st and 1st Grade students from St. John the Baptist will be coming to the Fire Station to watch a video, tour the Station and learn about the equipment on the Ambulances and Fire Trucks. All students also get a chance to experience what it’s like to hold and spray a fire hose.

Using this year’s Fire Prevention Theme, “Don’t Wait, Check the Date!”, The Whiting Fire Department holds a Poster Coloring Contest for Third and Fourth Graders and an Essay Contest for Fifth Graders. There will be a First, Second and Third place winner for every grade level. Winners receive a certificate, medal and T-shirt. Mayor Joseph Stahura and Fire Chief Gus Danielides will present the winners with their awards on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Nathan Hale School.

During this week, the Whiting Fire Department will also be taking posters and handouts/gifts related to Fire Prevention to Nathan Hale students in Second thru Fifth grades.

On Saturday, October 15, 2016, a Girl Scouts troupe will be coming to the Whiting Fire Department for a tour of the Station and to learn more information about Fire Prevention Week.
