Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

The City of Whiting will no longer be picking up household hazardous waste materials placed in the alley, we will not accept them at the Public Works Facility, and nothing should be abandoned on City of Whiting property or private property. Acceptable household hazardous waste materials must be taken to a Lake County Household Hazardous Waste Collection for proper disposal. All Lake County Household Hazardous Waste Collections are FREE TO LAKE COUNTY, INDIANA RESIDENTS. Click here for the 2023 schedule which lists the locations, times, and dates for all Lake County Household Hazardous Waste Collections. The Lake County Solid Waste Management District (LCSWMD) website also contains a list of items that will be accepted at their HHW Collection sites along with those items not accepted. Please note that there is a LCSWMD Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled for Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Whiting Public Works Building located at 1915 Front Street from 9am to 2pm.

Mayor Spebar and the City of Whiting are in the planning stages to have two additional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events in Whiting, tentatively set for May and November. These two HHW Collections will be for 46394 residents ONLY – Whiting and Robertsdale Residents will need to present their Driver’s License and provide their Home Address to prove they live in the 46394 zip code. We will post those dates as soon as they are firmly set. Please check back here for updates.
