Local Law Enforcement Officers Recognized for Outstanding Service

The City of Whiting would like to recognize Sgt. Kevin Puhek and Sgt. Donald Greer on their awards for “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” at the Outstanding Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Officers Banquet. Sgt. Puhek, with 20 years on service on the Whiting Police Department, was dispatched to a call in reference to shots fired. He advised dispatch he was in pursuit of the vehicle possibly involved in the shooting. Officers from Whiting, Hammond and Chicago were involved in the chase. The vehicle was stopped by the Chicago Police Department and assisted by Whiting Police Department for processing. Sgt. Greer, with 15 years of service on the Whiting Police Department, initiated surveillance of Little Caesar’s Pizza, which has been involved in recent robberies along with a local 7-11 store. Little Caesar’s was notified of the situation. Whiting dispatch radioed officers that the subject just robbed the business and was exiting the building. Officers assisted Sgt. Greer in the apprehension and transport of the subject to the Whiting Police Department where the subject was processed with four count of Robbery, a Class C felony. Congratulations to both officers on their outstanding service.
