New Plaza Area on 119th Street

1313 119th Street was previously an empty lot.  Mayor Spebar and the City of Whiting decided to rehab it into a public Plaza area where our citizens and visitors can sit, relax, and socialize. This area has tables for individuals and families to use, the top is covered with shades to help protect against the sun and weather, and a Mural will be coming soon to the back wall of the Plaza.

The City of Whiting hopes that residents and visitors will utilize this area well. This new Plaza area will be a great space for people to sit outside and eat food that they purchased from a local restaurant, or take a break and rest your feet after walking or shopping on 119th Street.  Once the Mural is completed you can stop and snap a photo of yourself and others.

The Mural is going to be a place for individuals to have a photo experience. It will represent Whiting and its history. The Mural will be completed by a local NWI artist by the name of Felix Maldonado. We have seen some of his other work and we are excited to be working with him on this project. You can check out some of his work at his website, FLEX Creative LLC., (felixmaldonado.com).

Be sure to stop in to the Plaza on your next trip down 119th Street and check it out, also keep your eyes open for the new Mural coming in the near future.
