NIPSCO Pole & Line Project Begins 5/18/2020

Beginning May 18, NIPSCO will be starting a project to upgrade portions of the electric system in Whiting and Hammond to enhance current system reliability in the area. The project will include replacing 139 aging utility poles and 2.25 miles of overhead electrical distribution lines, and is expected to last until September 2020.

Work in Whiting will take place along alleyways west of Indianapolis Blvd near Pearl St., Benedict Ave. and E. 120th St.with some work along E 121st St and near Stieber Ave.

Work in Hammond will take place near Indianapolis Blvd. and Schrage Ave. with some work along 126th St.

ARC American, an approved NIPSCO contractor, will be supporting the planned work.

Some lane closures may occur and signs and detour routes will be posted ahead of time. Flaggers will be on site directing traffic during construction hours. Please exercise caution when traveling near any construction zone to ensure personal safety and the safety of construction crews working on this project.

NIPSCO appreciates the patience of the community during this important system upgrade project and will continue to work with City of Whiting and City of Hammond officials to minimize impact to customers in this area.
