Possibility of Elevated Noise Levels at BP Whiting Refinery – UPDATE

Mayor Steve Spebar and the City of Whiting have received an additional notice from representatives at the BP Whiting Refinery that there is a possibility of elevated noise levels at the Whiting Refinery. BP is getting to the end of a scheduled equipment outage and is beginning the process of restarting additional equipment.

Similar to last week, part of the restart process includes opening a large steam valve which can sound like a plane/locomotive type of rumbling sound. BP estimates the start of this process to begin on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 9am and continue on and off for approximately 24 to 48 hours.

Please pass along this information to friends and family to make them aware of this situation. The City of Whiting and BP Whiting Refinery appreciate your patience and understanding during this re-start process.
