Possibility of Elevated Noise Levels at BP Whiting Refinery

Mayor Steve Spebar and the City of Whiting have received notice from representatives at the BP Whiting Refinery that there is a possibility of elevated noise levels at the Whiting Refinery. BP is getting to the end of a scheduled equipment outage and is beginning the process of restarting equipment.

Part of the restart process includes opening a large steam valve which can sound like a plane/locomotive type of rumbling sound. BP estimates the start of this process to begin on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at noon and continue on and off for approximately 24 hours.
