USEPA Soil Sampling • Whiting Residents
Monday, October 2, 2017
The City of Whiting would like residents to know that the USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) will be conducting soil sampling on select properties in the City in the next few weeks.
The effected property owners should have already received a letter regarding the proposed sampling. Participation is totally voluntary and residents who have received the letter can contact either Andy Maguire of the EPA or Mike Hrinyo as advised in the letter.
The sampling stems from issues at the former Federated Metals site. The USEPA is being proactive in reviewing such sites in light of the national lead concerns which have been raised across the country. Previously this year, city-owned parcels and parkways were sampled in order to define the proposed sampling area. The sampling will be at no cost to the property owners who received the letter.
